Growing by making failure a friend
I failed many times in 2021.
My biggest failure was the self-coaching app that I spent many months conceptualising, testing, developing and launching.
From this failure came important gifts however:
- I launched the Find Direction Course in which participants use the app, with great results
- I exposed myself by becoming part of the product (that was a scary step)
- I coached clients 1-1 using the app, with great results too
- I deeply integrated coaching principles
- I now know that creating something great from scratch is near impossible
Was it difficult at times? Hell yes! These failures and their gifts made me more humble and confident at the same time. They also created many opportunities.
I used to have a strong fear of failure. My successes were a key part of how I saw myself and how I thought others saw me. Breaking from this cycle has been difficult, but so rewarding.
In our VUCA world, it is all the more important to accept failure as an inevitable part of life and to learn from it.
Cheers to trying, learning and growing in 2022!
PS: Of course we all need success in our lives. This post on visualising your goals may help you. One tip: make your goals truly meaningful to you.
